Ice Cream Cones w/Numbers

I had Derek glue ice cream cones with numbers and then glue scoops to match the number on the cone. This was Derek’s first time gluing in a long time. I put a sponge in a container and poured glue over it so he could use it like a stamp pad to make gluing easier and less messy. He didn’t put enough glue in the paper so they wouldn’t stick and we had to re glue. This made him think the paper could be peeled off and re stuck. He also had some trouble with the concept of stacking the ice cream scoops on top of one another to have as many as the number on the cone. He would put one scoop on the cones and think he was done. He also literally stacked them on top so we couldn’t see the one underneath. I had to help him move the scoops around a bit. This wasn’t a complete fail but did need a lot of my assistance to complete. I probably shouldn’t have started with such an academic counting activity for Derek’s first gluing activity. Next time I’ll just have Derek count the scoops but leave the gluing part out. I’ll also give Derek some free exploring opportunities to practice gluing. This is great for older children.
