Moon Sand – Animal Rescue

I had some small zoo animals and lizard toys and some left over moon sand from a previous activity. I put the animals in the moon sand. Then I gave Derek the tweezers that came with the counting bear set so he could rescue the animals. He had a go at it for a little while. He then pretended the sand was snow and it was snowing on the animals. I hold him the animals he was playing with don’t live in the snow and he knows that but thought it was funny anyway. He then found the camel and started singing Alice the camel song (Alex as he sang it) The moon sand was nice as it was slightly sticky and Derek found it fun to pick it up with the tweezers. Moon sand is flour and oil so taste safe. Could omit the tweezers and be done with larger toys such as little people animals so you can get toddlers and even infants to play. If doing it the way we did then supervision is important as the animals are quite small. You could also use regular sand and play outside.
