Counting Bear – Board game

We attempted to play a simple board game that I found online using the counting bears. The object of the game is to roll the coloured bear dice and move your bear to that coloured circle and first one to the end wins. Obviously I knew this would be a challenge for Derek but I thought it would be fun for him to just play around with the dice and bears while learning colours and turn taking. He didn’t quite understand that he needed to move his bear marker to the next coloured circle that matched the throw on the dice. He wanted to move the bear to any matching coloured circle as well as get another bear that was that colour and match it to the board. Either way he wanted to play was still reinforcing colour recognition and matching. Then he found the number dice that came with the set and wanted to play the game with numbers. This dice had actual numbers and not just dots. He was good at recognizing the numbers on the dice. He would just move his bear all over the board while he counted but he is still learning how to count and how a game board works. He was enjoying himself while learning colours, numbers and turn taking. We will work up to actually following the spaces on a board and playing a game at another time.
