Popsicle Stick Name Match

I made pockets out of an envelope so that there was one for each letter in Derek’s name. I cut the envelope into five and taped the sides to create pockets and then taped them all back together to create the activity. You can staple the envelope to create the pockets which I would have done but didn’t have a working stapler. You could also simple fold a piece of paper and staple it to create the correct number of pockets for your child’s name. I then used stickers to spell out Derek with one letter on the front of each pocket but you could just write them. I wrote the corresponding letters on popsicle sticks. I kept the first letter capital and the rest lowercase like his name is properly written. I had Derek match the popsicle sticks to the correct letter on the pockets and place the popsicle stick inside. Derek was able to complete this activity rather quickly and with little help. He was excited to see his name and do an activity that involved it. This was great for letter recognition and matching as well as name recognition. This also worked on fine motor stills as he put the popsicle sticks Inside the little pockets. You can do this activity with either all uppercase letters or all lowercase letters or a combination of either. Also you could use other words besides your child’s name if they are older and working on sight words. You could keep it simple to one pocket and have them match one letter at a time if they are younger and just learning letters.
